"Mankind's first medicine- PLANTS were...used in every ancient culture, in every religion for help and healing." - D. Gary Young founder of Young Living.

HISTORY OF AROMATHERAPY AND ESSENTIAL OILS

Over 25 years ago I began my career in Natural Health as a Chiropractic Assistant and 8 years later as a Massage Therapist.  Clients would often come in suffering from an assortment of complaints. They rarely seemed to respond well to conventional care and they were desperately looking answers.  It was during this time that I was introduced to essential oils for health, wellness and vitality.  When our clients began using the essential oils, they were reporting so many success stories that I knew essential oils were more than just "pleasant to smell", they actually had real healing potential.

 I was hooked!

The of definition of Aromatherapy is:

"to use plant materials and aromatic plant oils, including essential oils and other aromatic compounds for the purpose of altering one's mood, cognitive psychological or physical well-being." Simply put, essential oils can be applied to almost any situation or circumstance with great success!

Historically, when we look at the use of essential oils we can truly find out how valuable they are.  The use of essential oils and aromatic plants is referenced over 500 times in the Bible.  Anointing one's body was believed to have mental, physical and spiritual significance.

In Egypt, when King Tut's tomb was unearthed they found clay vessels that had once held essential oils. The oils had most likely been stolen by tomb raiders, yet all the gold and treasures remained.  What did they know about these plant oils that made them more valuable than material riches?

The Greek physician Hippocrates taught one must treat a patient holistically and included aromatherapy and massage as part of his treatment plan for wellness.  In the 15th century during the time of the Bubonic plague, 4 thieves from Europe began robbing the bodies of plague victims that were often left behind because the "Black Death" was too contagious to tend to the dead. They miraculously never contracted the disease, but when they were finally captured and questioned they revealed, in exchange for their release, that they were perfumers and spice traders that were well versed in the medicinal qualities of plants, herbs & spices and had been anointing their own bodies for protection.

All over the world and across time, we see the use of essential oils today are as important as ever.

Today, scientists are finding that using essential oils and aromatics in place of conventional treatments to combat viral, fungal & bacterial infections, skin disorders, oral health, pain management and more which allows the patient to treat themselves without the risks associated from toxic chemicals, pharmaceuticals or surgeries.

As you can see, the importance of essential oils and plant medicines can not be underestimated. As a budget friendly, safe and effective solution, essential oils are just that- ESSENTIAL to the modern consumers holistic wellness offering safe, effective solutions for nearly ALL your health, personal care and household needs.
